Visit Westmalle brewery
It has become a tradition: every September, we open the doors of our brewery for our Open Brewery Days. On Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, visitors are welcome to discover how our Trappist beers are brewed.
Explore the brewery at your own pace and follow the process up close, from the brewhouse to the bottling plant. This year’s edition has a special focus: we are celebrating 100 years of Westmalle Dubbel. Join us in raising a glass to mark the occasion.
Programme
Visit the brewery: walk through the brewhouse, discover the history of the abbey and learn more about the brewing process behind our Trappist beers. This year, we will also take a moment to mark 100 years of Westmalle Dubbel.
Tasting: after your visit, you are welcome in our tasting room. The perfect moment to raise a glass together and enjoy a freshly poured Westmalle.
Brewery shop: want to take a little Westmalle home with you? In the shop, you will find our iconic tasting glasses, gift sets and the official abbey book. Our Trappist beers and cheeses will also be available.
Practical information
A visit takes about an hour and a half.
We open the doors at 8:30 am, and the last group starts at 3:00 pm. A new time slot begins every fifteen minutes. Visitors are admitted in groups at the time shown on their ticket.
The visit is available in Dutch, French or English.

Please note: as this is an active brewery, the route is unfortunately not accessible to people with reduced mobility or to children under the age of ten.
Ticket sale
The ticket sale starts on Thursday 25 June at 18:00.
Tickets can only be ordered online via Ticketmaster. It is not possible to reserve tickets by email, telephone or social media.
Tickets cost €12.50 per person. This price includes a tasting and a unique gift to mark 100 years of Dubbel.
You can buy a maximum of 4 tickets per person.

FAQs
Can I also visit the abbey?
No, only the brewery is exceptionally open to visitors. The monks of Westmalle live in silence and seclusion, and they deeply value their peace and privacy. For that reason, the abbey remains closed to the public.
In which language can I follow the visit?
You can follow the visit in English, French or Dutch.
There is no guided tour. The visit is self-paced. Along the way, you’ll find information boards in Dutch. At the entrance, you’ll receive a map with the same information. Don’t speak Dutch? Be sure to ask for a French or English version, so you can easily follow along in your preferred language.
Is the brewery accessible for wheelchair users or people with reduced mobility?
No, the route is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users or visitors with limited mobility. It runs through several buildings and floors, includes many stairs, and there aren’t lifts everywhere. There are also few resting points or seating areas along the way.
We are unfortunately unable to provide an adapted route. Thank you for your understanding!
Is there an audio guide?
No, there are no audio guides available. You visit the brewery at your own pace with the map you receive at the entrance. The information boards along the route are in Dutch, and the same content is shown on the map. Don’t speak Dutch? You can ask for an English or French version at the entrance.
Can I bring my pet?
Unfortunately, pets are not allowed in the brewery, for hygienic reasons.
Can I bring my children?
For safety reasons, all visitors must be at least 10 years old. The tour takes you through an active production site, with stairs, metal walkways, and operating equipment. We want to make the route as safe as possible – even for our youngest visitors.
I can’t make it anymore. What should I do?
Sorry to hear you can’t make it! Unfortunately, tickets are non-refundable and can’t be rescheduled. However, you’re free to resell your ticket via Ticketmaster or TicketSwap. You’ll find more information about that on their websites.
How do I get to the brewery?
The brewery is easily accessible by bike, public transport, and car.
There’s a spacious bicycle parking area right at the entrance. Coming by bus? The Westmalle Abdij stop is located right next to the brewery. Arriving by car? No problem – a visitor car park is available.
What if I’m a little late?
Your ticket shows a time slot, for example 8:30–8:45. Visitors are admitted in phases during that window, so there’s no need to arrive well in advance, as long as you arrive within the slot, that’s fine. Can’t make it in time? Just give us a quick call at +32 3 312 92 22, and we’ll take it into account.
Can we eat or drink after the visit?
A drink is included in your visit, but there are no additional food or drink options inside the brewery.
Looking for a bite or a drink afterwards? Café Trappisten is located just across the street and offers both. You’ll also find several cosy spots nearby to relax and enjoy a Westmalle, for example.
Are there toilets available?
Yes, there are toilets at several points along the route. Need to go before the visit starts? Just ask one of our staff at the entrance – they’ll gladly assist you.
Can I take photos during the visit?
Of course, we even encourage it!

What are mobile tickets?
You’ll receive your ticket digitally via the Ticketmaster app or website. Just show it on your phone at the entrance, there’s no need to print anything. Everything happens via your mobile phone, so please make sure your battery is sufficiently charged before setting off.
I can’t access my ticket because my phone died. What should I do?
Make sure your phone is fully charged before leaving. Battery still unexpectedly dead on the way? Talk to a staff member at the entrance, we’ll be happy to help.
