Hospitality

In addition to their lives of prayer and labour, the monks serve the community in a significant way. All people of good will are invited to share in contemplation during the community’s schedule of prayers.

Join in prayer

If you have a personal desire to share in contemplation based on the roster of prayers within the abbey, you are welcome to spend a number of days in our guest quarters.

The monks’ liturgical prayer services are open to everyone. Many decide to attend the Eucharist or Compline; some come every day. Others join the monks at their morning, midday or evening prayers.

However, if you would like to experience the entire rhythm of prayers within the abbey, you can spend several days at Westmalle to join in with all the daily prayers and even those prayed at night.

Guest accommodation promoting peace and quiet

Our hospitality is aimed at personal contemplation and, occasionally, contemplation within a group.

This is why we have visitor accommodation. We welcome everyone who wishes to experience the benefits of peace and quiet to spend several days with us in prayer and contemplation.

We welcome groups from time to time but only if they manage their own programme. The monks themselves do not organise retreats for others.

The abbey is situated on the N12 road from Antwerp to Turnhout, between the villages of Westmalle and Sint-Antonius-Zoersel. It is easy to get to using public transport: Bus 41.0 Antwerpen-Turnhout (managed by De Lijn) stops at the abbey – look for the halt called ‘Trappistenabdij’. From Antwerp there is a bus every 30 minutes: on the hour and the half-hour.
