THE EXPLICIT PRAYER

CONTINUAL PRAYER AS LIFE IN GOD’S PRESENCE | EXPLICIT PRAYER | THE LOVE OF MARY | THE LECTIO DIVINA | THE PATH OF SILENCE | LIFE IN COMMUNITY
monk kneeling in prayer

The monks go to the choir before daybreak for a long vigil of reading and prayer. They do so to pray to God for his support in this endless attempt to meet Him, and to be able to live in His presence and on the basis of that presence. Hence they are also summoned a further five times in the course of the day to speak to God, praise him, thank him, and to implore him.

In the Book of Psalms the monks find the words to sing out what is in their own hearts and in the whole world. This liturgical prayer reaches its highpoint in the daily celebration of the Eucharist. Through this mystery of love, the monk shapes his life around Jesus’ death and resurrection.
